Biathlon is one of the most spectacular and popular sports, reminiscent of the times when our not so distant ancestors were engaged in hunting and war. In our ranking of the Russian Biathlon Union 2018-2019 - 10 best Russian biathletes, both men and women, as well as a complete list in table form.
The best women biathletes of Russia for 2019
5. Evgenia Pavlova
The young athlete from Central Russia more than once became the winner of the junior competitions, but she went to the “adult” championship just now. And to everyone’s surprise at the sprint came the eighth, despite the difficult terrain for her. Eugene is optimistic about the future - as she said after a successful competition, the World Cup turned out to be much less scary than she imagined. She entered the number of finalists of the first stage, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise for both Russian viewers and herself. Unfortunately, she was not able to participate in races in Nove Mesto due to health problems.
4. Svetlana Mironova
Born in a small village in the Tomsk region, and got on the skis at the age of eight. The young skier showed such talent and the will to win that the coach even drove her to the competition at her own expense, since the girl's family was not rich. Since childhood, Svetlana dreamed of being like the German Olympic champion Magdalena Neuner, and took over from her one of the athlete's main advantages - an open and full of life smile.
Like Evgenia Pavlova, Svetlana performed a lot and successfully performed in junior races, as well as in the championships of Russia and Europe. According to the results of last year, she was recognized as the most talented biathlete newcomer. And the results of the World Cup in 2018-2019. this appreciation is only confirmed. In the sprint race, she showed better results than the other athletes of the Russian team, even ahead of the star Irina Starykh. True, the athlete herself is unhappy with herself - she says that she could have performed better without making “offensive mistakes”.
3. Anastasia Morozova
The appearance of Anastasia in the team for her was a surprise. Although the results at last year’s IBU Cup, where she took the leading place in the overall standings, were very successful for the athlete, she did not shine in the junior stage, losing the upper positions to her brighter rivals. However, the title of two-time champion at the Russian World Cup in 2017 made Morozova draw the attention of the Russian sports authorities. And the brilliant victories at the IBU Cup forced her to take part in the World Cup. Her debut was in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic), and it can hardly be called extraordinary - the girl took 38th place. The athlete herself is completely delighted, she says that she is overwhelmed with emotions, and everything around her will "fly away."
2. Evgenia Yurlova-Perkht
The St. Petersburg athlete, a multiple winner of the Russian championships, returned to the World Cup only this year. Previously, she participated in two World Cups, in 2007-2008 and 2011-2012, but she never won prizes, although she was stable in the top ten. The doping scandal bypassed Eugene, although rumors, of course, circulated, but were not confirmed. Nevertheless, the international career had to be forgotten for a long six years.
Eugenia was worried, but her father supported her both mentally and physically - he had been preparing his daughter for a sports career since childhood and he personally trained her. And he was right - at the World Championships in 2015, the Russian biathlete triumphantly won, never having missed the entire 15 kilometers of the distance and outstripped the opponent by 28 seconds.
Eugenia’s return to the World Cup was successful - in the second stage she came in third. Yurlova-Percht's endurance is by far the best among Russian athletes. If by the third stage they began to surrender sharply, then Eugene rushes forward with the dimensionality and accuracy of the clockwork, exactly like a year ago.
1. Irina Starykh
Russia's best biathlete does not like to give interviews to reporters, so little is known about her life. Unlike other athletes and sportswomen, it is not on the VKontakte social network or on Instagram. We only know about it that is contained in official documents.
The first biathlete of Russia was born in the city of Kurgan; unlike other girls, it was not her parents who brought her to the sport, but her interest in biathlon. Irina went to the section on her own, and there she met the outstanding Russian biathlete Yana Romanova (alas, at the moment she has already completed her sports career). Already at the junior performances, Irina's results were very good, and at the championship in Bulgaria she won first place. Then victories in the World Championship went - Irina got into the Russian team almost immediately. She took bronze, and in the next championship - silver. We seemed to be watching the start of a promising career, but the unexpected happened. An illegal doping substance was found in Irina’s samples. And she was disqualified for three years. Traditionally, she did not give an interview to the Old Ones and did not comment on what happened.
Her return to the big sport was triumphant - at the World Cup she took fourth place, and at the European Championship she took gold, showing 100% accuracy. Alas, for Irina, the current world championship is not as successful as before. Although she walked in the top ten for quite some time, she began to get tired and the last, the third stage was held on the last balances of energy and forces, sharply reducing speed.

5. Anton Babikov
Anton was born in a sports family, and inherited from his parents a love of physical education and a will to win. Although the parents did not insist on sports as a career, Anton’s potential turned out to be so high that the section coach advised him to go to “big sport”. As a result, an excellent athlete was born, having won his first medal (bronze) at the European Championships at the age of 23.
Anton is particularly successful in the “pursuit race” - a regime that many athletes dislike for the low cost / benefit ratio. Although Anton is very good and stable in winning awards in him, the last year’s Olympics in Pyongyang turned out to be so unfortunate for him that he tried to avoid contact with journalists, simply fleeing them. Jumped over the fence and was like that. Let's see what the results will be for him at the current World Cup in 2019.
4. Sergey Korastylev
Best of all, one of the best biathletes of the Russian national team works in a team or couple with female biathletes. For example, if at the World Championships in 2015 he took seventh place in the pursuit, then he won a confident victory in a team with three other Russian athletes. And in December 2018, he, together with Anastasia Morozova, won first place for Russia.
3. Evgeny Garanichev
To some extent, Eugene got into biathlon by accident. In a small village in the Perm region, there was simply no other sports section besides the ski section. Therefore, the parents, so that the child would not hang out unattended, sent him there after his elder brother - and did not lose. The child turned out to be exceptionally talented, he won first place at the world championship, and was second in the world championship among juniors. However, the conditions for the development of skiing in the Perm region were few, so in 2008 the young athlete went to the Siberians, to the Tyumen biathlon team. And two years later he became the winner of the Izhevsk rifle. Such a victory is an automatic ticket to the World Cup.
At the current World Cup, the best biathletes in Russia had two problems:
- Scandal with the Austrian police, who suddenly rushed to the headquarters of Russian athletes and charged with doping (despite the fact that the Russian team has been regularly tested without any problems in the last few years).
- Aggressive stance of Czech fans.
However, they did not prevent Eugene from taking third place in the mass start. The athlete himself says that the reason for victory is a complete concentration on “work” and getting rid of unnecessary thoughts.
2. Matvey Eliseev
With dad biathlete and mom skier, how could Matvey connect his life with anything other than sports? The family preferred expensive sports equipment of an extra class to the low-middle-class joys of the family, so that the upbringing and training of the future athlete began from a very early age. Already at a young age, Matvey showed great promise. He repeatedly became the winner of Russian competitions, and for the first time at the World Junior Biathlon Championships, he was not at a loss and received a bronze medal. Since then, the Muscovite’s career has been developing steadily - in 2016 he received a gold medal, and a year later became a medalist at the World War Games. Fortunately, the athlete's doping scandal bypassed, and he continued to do what he liked.
However, Matvey’s affairs at the 2019 World Cup are not going brilliantly. In the second round, he went down to thirtieth place. The athlete himself explains this by the fact that his ski buried in a snowdrift and broke, and the spare ski was disgusting. Stress from this caused mistakes - just Matvey missed the target eight times. Whether for this reason or some other, but he did not get into the relay team. However, the athlete himself is ready to correct his mistakes and work on himself, and wishes his associates victory.
1. Alexander Loginov
At the moment, Alexander, if not the main hope of the Russian biathlon, then in public opinion is very much like her. From early childhood, the best Russian biathlete of 2019 loved skiing and dreamed of looking like his idol, the outstanding and extremely talented Norwegian athlete Ule Bjoerndalen. His sports career developed rapidly - at the age of 13 he went to the section, a year later became a candidate for master of sports, and at the age of 18 he participated in the junior class at the World Championships in Sweden. And he performed brilliantly, since then becoming one of the recognized leaders among world-class biathletes.
However, doping scandals hit Loginov as well. A prohibited drug was found in the athlete's blood, so he was suspended from the competition until 2016, and the year of previous victories was declared invalid. A train of grievances and suspicions continues to follow Loginov, and one very emotional French athlete called the victory of a Russian in one of the stages of the World Cup in 2019 “shame” and demanded an apology.

The popularity of biathlon is a guarantee that competition among athletes is very high. The first 20-30 places are located almost close to each other, for one minute. In order to win, an athlete must be in excellent physical shape and shoot excellently - there is more competition, and the right to make mistakes is less. And the Russian team has more and more problems - even despite the triumphant return of the excellent athlete Loginov and the good results of Garanichev and Eliseev.
