Who can better assess the ecological state of a city better than its inhabitants? The Superjobs.ru portal shares this opinion, and therefore instructed its experts to interview residents in order to determine the most environmentally friendly city in Russia in 2019. After all, the cleaner the city, the more attractive it is for life and work.
The experts replied: “Yes!” and interviewed many people across the country, living in cities of 500 thousand or more. So the rating of the 10 cleanest cities in Russia in 2019 was compiled, according to their residents.
10. Penza
Opens the list of the cleanest cities in Russia in 2019, the capital of the Penza region. 11% of the citizens surveyed believe that the environment in Penza is excellent, and 49% think that everything is fine with it, it could be worse.
Experts from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Greenpeace agree with the opinion of the residents. And wild animals agree with the inhabitants, and with experts, and live with pleasure in the forest belt, which is part of the city square. Yes, practically in Penza itself live not only hares, but also foxes and even moose. And on the outskirts of the city you can often see the silhouette of a soaring falcon in the sky.
In addition to the forest belt, the city boasts an abundance of parks, gardens, squares and boulevards, so you can breathe in it easily and freely. Moreover, in the city there is a climatic resort-sanatorium!
However, not everything is so rosy. Not far from the city there is a plant engaged in the disposal of chemical weapons, which, of course, adds concern to people living nearby. And the population of the Oktyabrsky district of the city suffers from the presence of several industrial enterprises and, as usual, from the abundance of cars and their associated exhausts.
9. Ufa
One of the longest cities in Russia also boasts a favorable environment. 12% of citizens of Ufa are satisfied, and 47% are neutral.
Probably, such factors as the area occupied by the city, low crowding, and, as a result, weak gas pollution from automobile exhausts, probably played a role.
And although there are several large industrial enterprises within the city, the city administration really cares about the environment. Ufa is one of the rare Russian cities where special attention is paid to the protection of nature. Therefore, despite the general industrial development of the region, the situation with emissions and wastewater not only does not deteriorate, but even improves.
A large extent makes it possible to have a huge, by urban standards, number of green spaces. The total area of gardens, parks, squares occupies almost a third of the city.
8. Vladivostok
And here is the first city where environmental experts categorically disagree with the opinion of residents about the ecological situation of the city.
Some residents (13%) think that the environment in Vladivostok is good, and 45% believe that, in principle, everything is not bad. But experts believe that with water and with air in the city, everything is bad. Environmental measures in the city are not paid attention at all. And although after the start of perestroika, the heavy industry in Vladivostok virtually disappeared (which affected air quality), the consequences of its stay remained.
For example, at the location of the once flourishing shipyards, the soil is contaminated with heavy metals. It will take more than a dozen years for her to return to normal. There is little public transport, people travel by car, which gives an impressive share of emissions (60%) in air poisoning.
7. Novosibirsk
In terms of population, Novosibirsk is among the leaders throughout the Russian Federation. Despite the size and the fact that the city is the industrial and administrative center of the region, residents are generally satisfied with its environmental status. About 14% think that everything is fine, and 45% neutrally assess the degree of its purity.
Perhaps the role is played here by the favorable geographical position of the city: it is perfectly blown by the winds, which scatter harmful substances from the atmosphere. And, of course, the measures taken by the administration influence:
- regular cleanups for garbage and green spaces;
- the state of air and water is monitored;
- water supply and heat supply systems are being modernized;
- treatment facilities of enterprises are improving.
6. Barnaul
In sixth place among the most environmentally friendly cities in Russia is Barnaul. Yes, the same city, which, according to the results of research conducted by experts from the Ministry of Natural Resources, is in the top ten cities with the dirtiest air.
However, residents do not agree with the assessment of the Ministry of Natural Resources. 14% enjoy the ecology of the city, and 53% believe that in general, everything is in order.
Probably the secret of such optimism lies in the fact that in Barnaul the conditions of existence in the districts are very different. If in one area residents are not at risk of hanging clothes on the windward side due to the abundance of private houses with stove heating, in another, strong winds blow off all the smoke, dust and soot. If in the city center, located in the basin, the gas pollution is extremely high, then the residents of the outskirts near the forest belt can enjoy the aromas of flowers and foliage.
And although with the air in the city things are not as good as we would like, with water everything is in order. The city administration pays special attention to its cleaning.
5. Tomsk
This is a real mystery city. On the one hand, environmentalists are sounding the alarm about the massive felling of green spaces around the city. On the other hand, 17% of residents rated the city's situation as good, and 45% believed that everything in Tomsk was in order with the environment.
Although the capital of the Tomsk region has enough problems. The city is growing, it needs an area, so the city leadership made a "wise" decision to build new buildings in place of forests and squares, including in the already former recreation zone. And already built cottages, without embarrassment, pour liquid waste into the land of forestry, arable land, gardens and simply and corny into the river.
Unauthorized landfills spontaneously arise around the city, where unscrupulous entrepreneurs dump waste of both biological, industrial and domestic origin. True, in the last couple of years, the administration has become preoccupied with environmental problems, and now, like a two-faced Janus, he is cutting down forests with one hand and planting squares with the other. And they began to fight with mountains of garbage.
4. Naberezhnye Chelny
Although the city in Tatarstan separates more than two thousand kilometers from the capital of the Tomsk Region, residents assess the environmental situation in both cities equally. 17% of residents are satisfied, 45% think that everything is fine.
The main advantage of the city in terms of air condition is its territorial location. It is located in a place open to all winds, and although in winter strong winds can create some discomfort, but the city is perfectly blown. Even despite the abundance of industrial enterprises located in a ring around Naberezhnye Chelny; one of them is the automobile giant KAMAZ.
The water quality in the city is also good: in the region, its indicators are among the best. With green spaces, things are not perfect, but the city administration is investing time and money in caring for the old green areas and creating new ones.
3. Kazan
Residents of this ancient city are very proud of it. From their point of view, Kazan opens the top three among the most environmentally friendly cities in Russia. 18% of residents believe that the environment in Kazan is excellent, and 54% think that the situation is not brilliant, but quite tolerable.
Among cities with populations exceeding a million, this is the best result. Kazan suffers from the traditional diseases of large cities: air pollution, poor water, and the low quantity and quality of green spaces.
But from the point of view of utilization of household and industrial waste, Kazan can serve as an example to many others - this is the only large city throughout Russia that alone and completely utilizes and processes its own waste.
2. Krasnodar
In second place in the list of the cleanest cities in Russia, Krasnodar is comfortably located. He, as they say, is well settled - exactly at the border of two climatic zones, mildly continental and subtropical.
And the city is located between the warm Black Sea and the cold massif of mountains, which causes a clash of air masses and strong winds. This, as we already know, means purging, which is always good for the city.
Perhaps it is the excellent climate of Krasnodar and the air quality that are the reason for the residents' good assessments of the city's ecology. 20% think that everything is fine, and 50% think that, in principle, the state of Krasnodar is not bad.
However, as usual, experts disagree with them. And although thanks to the winds, residents almost do not notice emissions, they are still there, and in large quantities. The air pollution in summer is especially felt in summer, in industrial areas and also, as usual, near large transport arteries.
1. Tyumen
The cleanest city of Russia in 2019, according to its residents, becomes a large industrial Siberian city - Tyumen. As many as 39% of respondents believe that the environment there is excellent. And 44% called it normal.
And this is simply amazing for a city with an abundance of industrial enterprises, right? Moreover, most of them are engaged in oil and gas processing, there are also engineering and shipbuilding plants.
What is the secret? In the position of the administration of the city and region. Tyumen officials really pay attention to the environment. Garbage and waste are disposed of, wastewater is treated, trees are planted, enterprises are ordered to use the most advanced air cleaning equipment and so on. The result, as they say, is evident - in terms of the number of residents who are happy and satisfied with the environment, Tyumen almost doubles the results of the second place in the rating.
But the residents called Chelyabinsk the most unfavorable city for life. Only 2% of respondents are satisfied with the environment, while 79% consider it to be bad.
